Notes

Joseph or Josiah Amason (UriahI) (Born about 1800 in Georgia; Died in June 1855 in Hopkins County, Texas) Josiah Amason married Dicey Evans on 29 DEC 1839 in Montgomery County, Alabama. In the 1840 census of Montgomery County, Alabama, Joseph Amason is enumerated adjacent to Isaac Amason, with one male and one female in his household. This listing is probably for Josiah Amason and wife, Dicey Evans. In the 1850 U.S. census of Hopkins County, Texas, there is a listing for Josiah Emison, age 50 (Born about 1800 in Georgia) and wife, Dicy, age 47 (Born about 1843 in Georgia). Other transcribed land records for Hopkins County, Texas indicate a Joshua Amerson owned land in that county. Probate records of Hopkins County, Texas provided documentation that Josiah Amason's father-in-law was Absalom Evans of Hopkins County, Texas. I believe the Josiah Emison and wife, Dicy, listed in the 1850 census of Hopkins County, Texas to be the same as Josiah Amason, who married Dicey Evans in Montgomery County, Alabama in 1839. The 1850 Hopkins County, Texas census listing indicates, by the birthplaces of the children, that the family relocated from Alabama to Texas after 1840 and before 1846. Dicey (Evans) Amason and son, Daniel Amason, probably died before Absalom Evans, who died before January of 1854. Dicey and Daniel Amason are never mentioned in the probate court records. In February Court of 1854, Josiah Amison (sic) petitioned for consideration from the estate of Absalom Evans for his children, Mary Amison and Elijah Amison, as minor heirs of the deceased. The children later received disbursements from the estate of Absalom Evans. In May of 1855, Josiah Amason petitioned the court to appoint Green H. Crowder as guardian for the Amason children, as heirs of Absalom Evans. In the June 1855 probate court proceedings of Hopkins County, Texas, G. H. Crowder was noted as guardian for the minor heirs of "said Amason, dec'd".
